Georgia. Russia.

I just don't understand why everyone is so against Russia. All the arguments they are using can be applied the other way and even more directly to the USA.

The way I see it...
1. Georgia starts an ethic purge, attacking South Ossetia as the people of SO fought for freedom.
2. Russia, having warned them not to do so, attacks to stop the purge.
3. The world jumps all over Russia.

Didn't we learn the lesson in Darfur? I just love the arguments about respecting the boundaries of sovereign nations(Hello? Can you say Iraq?). Why didn't the UN or USA jump into the situation to stop Georgia's actions against SO before the Russians stepped in?

Simple really. There's no oil in Georgia, only mountains.

Actually... the news is saying that Russia got involved more for the oil stake(pipelines and trade routes) than for the human rights violations.

Oh, that's right! the oil lines must run right through there and into Asia.

Ughh - All these wars over resources... so stupid. Take the billions of dollars and invest it in renewable research and stop wasting lives on the battle field. Those lands have been hotly contested for generations upon generations - the gain is just not worth it.
