Legal Lunch

So, they are still pushing forward with the required training during my unpaid lunch period. I looked up the laws http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/149-100.htm and found they are pretty specific that Raytheon wants to do something it really doesn't want to do.

They also have a bit about the lunch thing on their website http://www.ago.state.ma.us/filelibrary/minwageposter2004.pdf
"Employees who work a period of more than six hours are entitled to a 30-minute meal break. Employees must be relieved of all duties during the meal break. Compensation for the 30-minute meal break must be paid if the employee has voluntarily agreed to waive his or her meal break by (1) working through his or her meal break, or (2) agreeing to remain on premises during the meal break."

I'm not sure what to do.

I'm not sure if I should contact the legal department and let them know what is going on or what. I would expect that Raytheon doesn't want to break the law or become subject to the fines, but...

I talked to Tim Churchill about it and it seems that back 4-5 years ago, and for years and years before that, when Raytheon was cutting checks once a month they were in violation of some state law that said you had to get paid more often(at most every 2 weeks and within 6 days of the end of the pay period). It was cheaper for Raytheon to pay the fee every month and just keep doing what it was doing.

In this case I'm not so sure. The fee is a minimum 300 bucks, which is more than I make in an hour.
